Two Piece Bikini
Shopping for your two piece bikini takes a lot of time, effort, and money, especially if it has a designer brand. Because of this, it is important that you take good care of your swimwear so you can save time and money next summer.
The bathing suit is a delicate apparel. This is why you should be extra careful when you wash and keep it. Below are tips on how you can make your two-piece last for a long time.
Read the instructions on the product label
Most swimsuits have labels containing the instructions on how to wash them. Before you do your laundry, make sure that you read and understand these. It also pays if you follow the guidelines carefully.
Never use the washing machine
If there is no special instruction on the label, you still have to follow the basic guidelines on washing delicate items. One of the important instructions is to never wash your two-piece using a machine. Just hand wash it. Do not also wrung it to remove the water. Using a dryer is also a no-no. After rinsing, just hang it indoors or let it air-dry. You should not put it under the direct heat of the sun because the elasticity of the fabric might weaken.
Just use mild soap
To remove chlorine and other chemicals on your bathing apparel, you have to use a soap. However, you should opt for one that is chemically mild. Strong chemicals might ruin the spandex of your beachwear, thereby shortening its longevity. Avoid also the use of bleach to remove stains. The bleach can cause the discoloring of the fabric and would also affect the material’s elasticity.
Avoid bringing the two-piece in contact with oil-based lotions
If possible, avoid using oil-based sunscreen because it could damage the elasticity of the spandex on your bikini. However, if you cannot prevent using one, just make sure that it will not come in contact with the fabric. If the beachwear is smeared with the lotion, remove the smear immediately with water.
Rinse the apparel with tap water
It is important that you rinse the swimsuit with tap water right after you take a plunge on chlorinated or salt water. Do not use boiling or hot water because this can also cause discoloring and may also affect the elasticity of the spandex. After washing it, make sure that it is completely dry before you put it away in your closet.
